Argyle

This weekend Argyle hits theaters. This move follows author Elly Conway who is known for her best-selling espionage novels featuring a secret agent named Argyle, who embarks on a mission to dismantle a global spy syndicate. But when the events in her books start to eerily resemble the covert operations of an actual spy organization, the boundary between fiction and reality begins to blur.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of Argyle.

The Good

Argyle is a fast-paced, clever spy thriller that effortlessly blends the best of espionage clichés with a fresh, tongue-in-cheek twist. With a plot that’s equal parts action-packed and hilariously self-aware, Argyle delivers all the spy movie staples—car chases, explosive showdowns, and secret organizations—while keeping you guessing with its playful, unpredictable narrative. Think of it as a love letter to the genre, wrapped in a bow of smart humor and unexpected twists.

The Bad

The one aspect of the movie that truly bothered me was a particular scene. Elly skates across a floor slicked with oil, taking out a group of armed guards in an exaggerated, over-the-top sequence. While the entire fight is absurd and almost laughable, I had no real issue with it. What really irked me, however, was that after sliding and battling in dark oil for what felt like an eternity, Elly carries on with her mission in a nearly pristine dress, with only a small streak of black on her face. This glaring continuity mistake completely pulled me out of the experience and lingered in my mind for the rest of the film.

My Overall Opinion

I give Argyle an 8 out of 10.
