The Watchers
The Watchers is the newest mystery thriller to come to theaters. The movie follows A 28-year-old artist who is stranded in a vast, untouched forest in western Ireland. After finding shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped with three strangers, all of whom are stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of The Watchers.
The Good
The Watchers is an excellent adaptation of A.M. Shine's novel, translating its original and engaging story to the big screen with skill. The plot keeps audiences intrigued, maintaining a sense of mystery throughout. Dakota Fanning delivers a standout performance as Mina, faithfully bringing the character from the book to life. I also appreciated the film’s deliberate pacing, allowing the audience to gradually encounter the creatures. The decision to withhold their full appearance for much of the film was a brilliant choice, enhancing the suspense and intrigue.
The Bad
The film's ending was the most significant issue for me. While the reveal about Madeline remained faithful to the book, the subsequent developments took a direction that I found unappealing. Madeline’s actions in the final scenes seemed inconsistent with her character throughout the rest of the film, creating a sense of dissonance.
My Overall Opinion
I give The Watchers a 7 out of 10.
