Transformers One

The next Transformers movie hits theaters this weekend in the form of an animated prequel. Transformers One is an origin story where Optimus Prime and Megatron were once close friends, bound by a brotherly bond that allowed them to alter the fate of Cybertron forever.

What follows is The Good, The Bad, and NO Spoilers of Transformers One.

The Good

To say that Transformers One exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. Initially, I didn't anticipate much from the film, but I was thoroughly impressed by its engaging origin story. The movie strikes a great balance between humor and action, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults. I highly recommend it to families, and believe it will be a great choice once it's available for rent or streaming.

The Bad

Although I am not deeply familiar with the Transformers lore, I found the sudden personality shift of D-16, later known as Megatron, to be jarring and somewhat unearned. While I understand the sense of betrayal, it's important to note that all the Transformers faced the same betrayal. D-16’s abrupt willingness to kill a friend, especially after previously going to great lengths to protect them, felt inconsistent with his character development.

 My Overall Opinion

I give Transformers One a surprising 7 out of 10.
